Calvin Institute of Christian Worship announces $300,000 in grants to support worship renewal across North America

Since it began in the year 2000, the Worship Renewal Grants Program, housed at the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship in Grand Rapids, Mich, has awarded more than 600 grants to churches, schools and seminaries across North America for projects that can generate renewed interest, thoughtfulness and energy for public worship at the local, grass-roots level.

At the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, we have found that, just like diet and exercise, there are valuable tools that can help churches open up to new ways of experiencing God’s flowing Spirit. Some churches with which we work even choose to apply for a Worship Renewal Grant to give focus to their study of worship. We believe that grants can function for churches like aerobic capacity-building exercises for Olympic athletes: strong congregations with great potential that need to further be strengthened can benefit from our grants program.

Partnering in Preaching

A new partnership between the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, Calvin Theological Seminary's Center for Excellence in Preaching and the Ogilvie Institute of Preaching at Fuller Theological Seminary will work to encourage better preaching in pulpits across a wide variety of denominational settings and locales. It is being funded by a three-year, $1 million grant from the Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc.
